The first recorded use of the word camel as a color name was in 1916 and nearly a century later we cannot overstate the timeless appeal and limitless versatility of a classic camel coat. Over the years designers have paired the neutral hue with every color imaginable- think periwinkle to oxblood and white to black- with stunning results.

The camel jacket shown here by Derek Lam makes a sophisticated topper for edgy black leather leggings and strappy heeled booties. We love the feminine curved seaming and peplum-like structure of the jacket back in combination with the more masculine double-breasted jacket front and brass buttons.

The Celine trio bag in special edition astrakhan stamped lambskin is as versatile a bag as camel is a color.  Snap off compartments can be used as a clutch on their own or the bag with one, two, or three compartments worn as a cross body or shoulder bag.

Each of these wardrobe enhancing classics will be go-to pieces for years to come- even half a century isn’t too much to hope for!
